I have lived in Vandalia, Ohio most of my life.  I grew up here, went to school here, and I am currently raising my family here.  Vandalia - Butler Township, is where I call home.

People always ask me how I became interested in massage.  To be honest, it was something I just started performing on my tense, stressed colleagues 15 years ago; it just felt natural to me.  I worked in a corporate world for most of my working career as a mortgage loan officer and then later in sales.  This can be a very stressful job - a lot of sitting at computers and talking on phones at a desk all day.  A lot of my colleagues at the time needed shoulder/neck and back rubs.  As I would ask them for help on a file, instead of just standing there, I would just start working on their shoulders.  As time drew on, anytime I would come up to someone's desk they would just turn their back to me and I would start to work on them.  They would always say, "Ahhh that feels great; you should do this for a living!"  Ha, I thought.  Yeah, right!  But I noticed what a difference just a few minutes made, so there planted the seed.

In January 2008 I found myself very unhappy in the direction my career was going.  I didn't enjoy my work or going to work, so I did some serious thinking and asking what was it I was missing?  "Happiness" is all that came to mind.  So, I decided to ask myself, what makes me happy?  The only answer:  "people."  I love to work with people.

As I was getting my regular massage, I started to remember back to my happy days at the mortgage company and how I used to rub shoulders for fun.  "That's it!  Massage!"  I needed to become a massage therapist.  I started asking questions to my massage therapist right then and asked others I knew.  The next thing I know, I am researching schools and then I am enrolled at SHI Integrative Medical Massage School.  I started in April 2008 and would finish in December 2009.

At Peace Massage & Wellness - Ashiatsu MassageHonestly, I did not know one thing about the human body on a medical level and my first day at school was a shock.  I was handed an 85-pound bag of books. One of those, my anatomy book, was bigger than the Yellow Pages!  Plus, I had a blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, and a small- scale full skeleton?  I thought to myself, what have I gotten myself into?  My anatomy teacher gave our first lecture.  There was no easing into this and her first words to us were "THIS IS HARD ... You will learn the entire body like any physician, and in some cases more detail ... THIS IS HARD."  She was right, but it is my proudest accomplishment.

When I graduated, I was ready and prepared for my state boards.  I was prepared to open my own business.  I left SHI with certification in Craniosacral, and training in TMJ and Myofacial Release.  I have since gone on to take my National Certification boards, as well as certification in Ashiatsu, Reiki, Bamboo Fusion, and I am starting my next journey to become a certified aromatherapist and certified in Thai Massage.

I am proud of my accomplishments, and I am really proud of the studio I have created, At Peace Massage & Wellness.  Massage has been an amazing journey and has changed my life.  I am very passionate about my work and love what I do.  My belief is that people need human touch to feel happy.  I also believe that people need to connect with and respect themselves before they can respect others and respect nature and the earth.  I feel that giving and receiving a massage is a step in the right direction.

Peace!
